The following timeline is based on the UKFPO's guidance. Knowing the key dates will help you to prepare for your SJT, and to look further ahead to the start of your foundation programme.
Before 10 August: Check you're eligible to apply. You can read all the eligibility information and guidance on the UKFPO's website.
22: Check the available Academic foundation programmes on Oriel (the online recruitment portal).
16: Check the indicative programmes on Oriel.
26 - 30: Register on Oriel. You must have been nominated by your medical school/UKFPO.
28: Deadline for requests for reasonable adjustments to the SJT (eg, for personal health reasons or religious observances).
3 - 14: Complete the online application form for the foundation programme (and academic foundation programme if applicable). No applications will be accepted after midday on 14 October.
14: Deadline for pre-allocation requests because of special circumstances (eg, because you're a parent or carer, or have location-specific medical needs).
17 October - 13 January: academic foundation programme short-listings and interviews. Dates and processes vary depending on your foundation school.
24: Your verified EPM scores will be available to view on your Oriel account.
2: First SJT date.
9: Second SJT date. Remember that you must attend the date you registered for.
18 January - 15 February: academic foundation programme offers made. Accept or decline these via Oriel by your deanery's deadline.
17: Final programmes available on Oriel.
9: Primary list allocations made to the foundation programme. Your overall application score, which includes your SJT score, will be available on Oriel. If you're on the reserve list, you'll be told by email on this date too.
By 1 April: Primary list applicants to the foundation programme should select their preferences by this date.
6: Primary list applicants to the foundation programme will be notified of their programme matches. Log in to Oriel to see which programme you've been matched to.
Apply to the GMC for provisional registration for a license to practise. You must have this in place before you can be issued an employment contract.
Reserve list applicants with to the foundation programme the highest scores will be allocated to any new vacancies that have come up.
Employment contracts issued.
Foundation programme starts. Shadowing periods for new F1 doctors usually begin in late July.
