BMA
Withdrawal of clinically assisted nutrition and hydration
The BMA has updated its guidance on withdrawal of clinically assisted nutrition and hydration, produced in combination with the Royal College of Physicians and the GMC.

CQC
Opening the door to change: NHS safety culture and the need for transformation

Legislation
Civil Liability Act receives royal assent
The Act includes reforms to the process of setting the personal injury discount rate (PIDR), which was drastically reduced by 3.25% in 2017 and drove up the cost of clinical negligence claims dramatically. The Act requires a change to the way the rate is set and should go some way to redressing the financial damage caused to the NHS and GP indemnity costs by the PIDR reduction.
NHS Improvement
Developing a patient safety strategy for the NHS
NHS Improvement is accepting submissions for a consultation on proposals for a new national patient safety strategy. The strategy is being developed alongside the NHS Long Term Plan and will relate to all aspects of the NHS. Submissions are being accepted until 15 February 2019.
