Is there a timescale for revalidation?

Yes. The Department of Health has confirmed that revalidation will begin on 3 December 2012. The GMC expects to:

  • revalidate most Responsible Officers (ROs) by March 2013
  • revalidate 20% of doctors by March 2014
  • revalidate a further 40% by March 2015 and
  • revalidate the remaining 40% by March 2016.

The end of the first revalidation cycle will be March 2018. Doctors will usually be required to revalidate once every 5 years. The GMC has said it will inform every doctor of their anticipated date for revalidation by the end of March 2013.
