Elective photo competition

  1. The elective photo competition is open to MDU and DDU members.
  2. The competition opens on 1 October 2019 and closes on 30 September 2020. Entries received after this date will not be included. Any entry which does not comply with these terms and conditions will be invalid.
  3. The MDU shall not be liable or responsible for, and shall not include in the competition, any ineligible entries, or entries which the MDU does not receive.
  4. Entrants must submit entries via email to photos@themdu.com or photos@theddu.com. Instructions on how to enter can be found on any of the following channels: the MDU website, MDU Student Facebook page, MDU Instagram page, MDU Twitter page, DDU Facebook page, or DDU Twitter page or DDU website.
  5. Only one photo per entrant can be submitted into each two month judging period. Entrants may re-enter with a new photo provided that they do so in a different two month judging period.
  6. By entering each entrant warrants that: use of the photo and the entry by the MDU in accordance with these terms and conditions will not require the MDU to pay any fee or royalty. The entrant shall compensate and reimburse the MDU in full for any costs and expenses incurred by the MDU resulting from a breach of the warranties above. The photo and accompanying entry does not in any way infringe the rights of anyone else and does not contain anything unlawful (e.g. obscene or defamatory); they or the relevant licensor have obtained the prior written consent of any person(s) depicted in the photo and any accompanying narrative to take part in this competition, and for the photo to be used in accordance with these terms and conditions. Entrants must confirm in writing, within their email entry, whether consent has been obtained from any person(s) depicted; they took the photo themselves or are the subject of the photo, or have obtained consent of the photographer (or relevant licensor) (licensor);
  7. All entries must be in JPEG, GIF, PNG or TIFF file format.
  8. Only photos taken on an elective placement are valid.
  9. Entries must not contain children who appear to be under 16-years-old.
  10. Entrants can only win once in the 12-month period.
  11. A winner will be selected from all eligible entries received since the last winner was chosen.
  12. The judging panel will take into account the quality and relevance of each photo and pick a winning entry every two months. The winner will receive an £80 gift card (choice of Amazon, John Lewis or M&S).
  13. The MDU reserves the right to change the prize to something else of similar value.
  14. The MDU's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  15. Winners will be notified by email and any unclaimed prizes will lapse if not claimed within two months of the judges' decision.
  16. The competition results will be announced on the MDU Student Facebook pageMDU Instagram pageMDU twitter pageDDU Facebook page, and DDU twitter page every two months.
  17. By entering each entrant consents to allow the use of their name and photograph as part of any promotional activity, including and without limitation to: having their name and entry published in connection with the MDU on the MDU websiteMDU Student Facebook pageMDU Instagram pageMDU twitter pageDDU Facebook pageDDU twitter page and DDU website or any MDU or DDU publication; entrants acknowledge and understand the MDU shall not be obliged to promote the entries in the ways or media described above.
  18. The MDU reserves the right to remove a published photo from its website or social media accounts without notice before or after the competition closing date.
  19. The photos do not express the opinion of the MDU and persons should not rely on any information contained within them.
  20. Entrants agree to make the original high resolution photos available to the competition organisers upon request.
  21. The MDU will not accept responsibility for any loss resulting from a technical fault, incomplete, illegible or otherwise damaged entries.
  22. The MDU reserves the right to withdraw the promotion without notice.
  23. By entering each entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions and by any other requirements set out in the promotional material relating to this competition. Unless expressly stated otherwise, in the event of any conflict between any promotional material and these terms and conditions, these terms and conditions shall prevail.
  24. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
