Tips for new doctors competition

  1. The #tipsfornewdoctors competition is open to all MDU members.
  2. The competition opens on Friday 16 November 2018 and closes on Friday 28 December 2018. Entries received after this date will not be included. Any entry which does not comply with these terms and conditions will be invalid.
  3. The MDU shall not be liable or responsible for, and shall not include in the competition, any ineligible entries, offensive entries or entries which the MDU does not receive. 
  4. Entrants must submit entries either via Instagram or email. The tip should be limited to 150 words and must advise medical students about any aspect of medic life. Entries via Instagram must be posted with a suitable image on the entrant’s public account tagging @themdu_, using the hashtag #tipsfornewdoctors. Entrants must be following the @themdu_ Instagram account. Email entries should also contain a tip and image and be sent to
  5. By entering each entrant warrants:
    • if the accompanying image is a photo, they took the photo themselves or are the subject of the photo, or have obtained consent of the photographer (or relevant licensor) (licensor); 
    • they or the relevant licensor have obtained the prior written consent of any person(s) depicted in the photo and any accompanying narrative to take part in this competition, and for the photo to be used in accordance with these terms and conditions; 
    • the photo and accompanying entry does not in any way infringe the rights of anyone else and does not contain anything unlawful (e.g. obscene or defamatory);  
    • the photo does not contain children who appear to be under 16-years-old;
    • use of the photo and the entry by the MDU in accordance with these terms and conditions will not require the MDU to pay any fee or royalty. The entrant shall compensate and reimburse the MDU in full for any costs and expenses incurred by the MDU resulting from a breach of the warranties above. 
  6. All entries must be in JPEG, GIF, PNG or TIFF file format. 
  7. Entrants are limited to five submissions but will only be considered for one prize.
  8. The judging panel will take into account the quality of each tip and accompanying image. 
  9. The winner will receive an iPad mini 4 and three runners up will receive an Arclight.
  10. The MDU reserves the right to change the prize to something else of similar value. 
  11. The MDU's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  12. Winners will be notified by email and any unclaimed prizes will lapse if not claimed within two months of the judges' decision.
  13. The competition results will be announced on MDU Instagram, MDU Student Facebook and MDU twitter pages.
  14. By entering each entrant consents to allow the use of their name and tip as part of any promotional activity, including and without limitation to:
    • having their name and entry published in connection with the MDU on the MDU social media accounts listed above, or any MDU publication;
    • entrants acknowledge and understand the MDU shall not be obliged to promote the entries in the ways or media described above. 
  15. The MDU reserves the right to remove a published tip from its website or social media pages without notice before or after the competition closing date. 
  16. The tips and associated images do not express the opinion of the MDU and persons should not rely on any information contained within them. 
  17. The MDU will not accept responsibility for any loss resulting from a technical fault, incomplete, illegible or otherwise damaged entries. 
  18. The MDU reserves the right to withdraw the promotion without notice. 
  19. By entering each entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions and by any other requirements set out in the promotional material relating to this competition. Unless expressly stated otherwise, in the event of any conflict between any promotional material and these terms and conditions, these terms and conditions shall prevail.
