Confidentiality: disclosing information about serious communicable diseases

e-learning

Trust is an essential part of the doctor-patient relationship, and confidentiality is central to this. Patients may avoid seeking medical help, or may under-report symptoms, if they think their personal information will be disclosed by doctors without consent, or without the chance to have some control over the timing or amount of information shared.

This e-learning module focuses on confidentiality and disclosing information about serious communicable diseases.

By the end of the module you should:

  • understand the GMC guidance on disclosing information about serious communicable diseases
  • understand how to approach cases involving disclosure of confidential information about serious communicable diseases.

You'll also have the opportunity to test your knowledge as you work through the course.

Estimated completion time is 30 minutes.

You don't need to finish the course all at once – you can save your progress and pick up where you left off whenever it's convenient.

Once you finish the course you'll be able to download a certificate of completion.
