Working in the NHS

If you plan to work as a hospital doctor in a National Health Service (NHS) hospital, here are some of the common categories of work that you might do, together with an illustration of the likely annual subscription rate.

If you have an official training position recognised by the local education board:

  • Foundation Year 1: £10
  • Foundation Year 2: £20
  • Specialist / Core Trainee Year 1: £48
  • Specialist / Core Trainee Year 2: £60
  • Specialist / Core Trainee Year 3: £84
  • Specialist Trainee Year 4: £140
  • Specialist Trainee Year 5: £250
