Dr Hugh Stewart, MDU Head of Scottish Affairs

Dr Hugh Stewart

Director of legal services and Scottish affairs at the MDU, graduated in law, medicine, and medical law and ethics at Glasgow University and is based in Stirlingshire. Hugh worked as a GP principal in Glasgow and a lecturer in law at Napier University in Edinburgh before joining the MDU. He is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and a Fellow of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine and regularly contributes to government and other consultations on behalf of the MDU’s members in Scotland.


Catriona James

Dr Catriona James

Catriona graduated from Glasgow University and trained as a GP in the West of Scotland, before joining the MDU in 2001. Since that time she has completed an LLM in the Legal Aspects of Medical Practice and become a foundation member of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine. Catriona is based in Glasgow.


Christine Bradford

Dr Christine Bradford

Christine originally trained at the University of Glasgow. She was a GP principal for eight years. Before joining the MDU she worked as a GP locum and as a senior medical adviser to life insurance companies. As well as working as a medico-legal adviser she is a course tutor in Medical Ethics to undergraduate medical students at the University of Edinburgh. Christine is based in Glasgow.


Jerard Ross

Mr Jerard Ross

Jerard graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1994. He then moved into surgical training in Edinburgh before completing his M.D. at the University of Manchester. Before joining the MDU he was a consultant in adult and paediatric neurosurgery in Edinburgh where he was the surgeon to the Scottish National Paediatric Epilepsy Programme.
