What sanctions might I face at a fitness to practise panel hearing?

If there are real concerns about your fitness to practise (FTP), your case will be heard by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) - an operationally separate part of the GMC.

If the panel finds your fitness to practise is impaired, it has the option of a number of different sanctions, including:

  • written undertakings
  • a period of conditions on your registration
  • suspension for a specified period
  • erasure from the medical register (this will not happen where the allegations relate solely to your health).

Even if your fitness to practise is not found to be impaired, the FTP panel may still decide to issue a warning if it believes your behaviour or performance has fallen below acceptable standards.
