Free membership for doctors fleeing war in Ukraine

We're waiving the first year of MDU membership for doctors fleeing conflict in war zones, such as Ukraine, who come to practice in the UK.

If you're living in the UK and are seeking work as a medical professional, you will need to register with the GMC first. Once registered, call 0800 716 376 to arrange MDU membership to get appropriate indemnity in the event something goes wrong.

To be eligible for free MDU membership, you must be:

  • newly registered with the GMC
  • working in an NHS indemnified role.

Membership for medical students in the UK is free.

Our thoughts are with all those that have been affected by the war in Ukraine, and other areas of conflict around the world.

Crisis Rescue Foundation Medical School

The MDU has partnered with non-profit Crisis Rescue Foundation (CRF) Medical School UK Elective programme to support displaced medical students in Ukraine.

The MDU's head of advisory services Dr Nandasoma will provide lecture support as part of the CSF's free virtual programme for medical students still in Ukraine, as well as other medical students around the world who have been displaced due to local crises, including Sudan.

Crisis Rescue Foundation and its medical school was established and is led by GP Dr Sharon Raymond. See the website for more details. Members wishing to deliver lectures for the CRF medical school can sign up here.
