Massive increase in GP clinical negligence costs

A change introduced by the Lord Chancellor has overnight added millions to the cost of clinical negligence claims.

The discount rate (the mechanism courts use to calculate the size of lump sum compensation payable to claimants) has been reduced from 2.5% to -0.25%.

The rising cost of GP indemnity was already a cause for serious concern. This change has made matters much worse.

A large increase in the cost of GP indemnity subscriptions is simply not affordable.
