Consent is a cornerstone of good clinical practice for healthcare professionals. But there are many aspects to making sure consent is valid - not least that patients understand what they're actually consenting to.
So when a complaint came about because a written consent form didn't adequately accommodate a patient's needs, Professor David Wald decided to do something about it.
In the latest issue of the MDU journal, he discusses Explain my Procedure (EMP), which uses animations to explain medical and surgical procedures, supporting patient understanding and consent.
