Your subscription is based on the amount and type of work that you do.
For some members subscriptions are based on sessions. The MDU defines a session as four hours of clinical work, or part of four hours worked. This includes anything that that could potentially give rise to a clinical negligence claim as a result of the provision of care to individual patients; for example, time spent writing up clinical notes, making referrals, issuing prescriptions and so on. You do not need to include time spent on general practice administration or employee issues.
Calculate your sessions using the number of hours you regularly work each week, excluding any extra hours completed occasionally to meet the needs of your patient population. For example, if you are contracted to work three morning sessions and three evening sessions each week but the surgery occasionally overruns, this doesn't have to be included. However if it frequently overruns then the estimated additional time should be included in your calculations.
The following formula can be used to determine the number of weekly sessions you need to declare. Any annual/study leave or time away from the practice can be excluded.
Please remember it is your average number of weekly sessions across your membership year on which your subscription is calculated.
