Patients have a statutory right of access to medical reports for insurance purposes, as set out in the Access to Medical Reports Act 1988.
Whether they exercise this right or not, it can be helpful to share a report with the patient before you disclose it, so they have a chance to correct any factual inaccuracies. This also ensures the patient's consent remains in place.
