Confidentiality and disclosing information after death

e-learning

After a patient has died, GP practices are often approached by relatives, carers, or officials asking for confidential information about the patient.

There are a number of reasons why someone may request access to this information, but you should be aware of the legislation related to the disclosure of a deceased person's health records. You should also be aware of what the GMC expects from doctors dealing with requests for information about a patient who has died. This online module will help you understand the GMC requirements in this area and the relevant legislation.

You'll also have the opportunity to work through some hypothetical cases and review your knowledge with a short quiz.

Estimated completion time is 40 minutes.

You don't need to finish the course all at once – you can save your progress and pick up where you left off whenever it's convenient.

Once you finish the course you'll be able to download a certificate of completion.
