Safe prescribing and prescribing errors

e-learning

This module has been updated to reflect the GMC's 'Good medical practice' (2024) guidance.

This e-learning module will help you to recognise the most common medication errors and high-risk situations when prescribing. You'll be introduced to the principles of safe prescribing and how to apply them in your practice.

Over the course of this module, we will cover:

  • how to recognise the systemic and human factors associated with different types of medication errors and how to mitigate these
  • how to ensure everyone in the practice is aware of how they can support safe prescribing and medication management
  • what to do in the event of an error or adverse drug reaction where to find guidance on all aspects of prescribing.

This module is primarily aimed at GPs, prescribing nurses and pharmacists. It may also be of some interest to senior managers in primary care.

The module uses examples and interactive questions and scenarios to guide you through and help consolidate your learning, with a short quiz at the end to check your knowledge and understanding.
