Dr Udvitha Nandasoma, head of advisory services at the Medical Defence Union (MDU), said:
"On behalf of the MDU, I want to extend my congratulations to Paula Sussex CBE on being appointed the new PHSO. We look forward to working with her in due course.
"As Paula begins her new role, the NHS and all those working within it continue to face unprecedented challenges in trying to provide timely and safe care to patients.
"It is our hope that the PHSO's office will continue to be committed to investigating complaints in a balanced and fair manner as an independent body separate from the government or the NHS in England."
