MDU Lab terms and conditions

1. General

In these terms and conditions, "we" and "us" means The Medical Defence Union Limited (MDU). 

The MDU Lab is a group of MDU members who have volunteered to get involved in research and testing of MDU products and services. This may involve surveys, interviews, focus groups and user testing.

If you join the MDU Lab we will contact you from time to time to invite you to participate in research of testing. Details of the activity will be set out in the invite.

2. Confidentiality

Any materials including, without limitation, any surveys, designs, tests, specifications, digital assets, marketing materials or anything else supplied as part of the MDU Lab is confidential. By participating in the MDU Lab you undertake that you will:

2.1 treat all materials as secret and confidential and take reasonable measures to ensure such confidentiality

2.2 not use or permit the use of the materials for any purpose other than the purpose stated by the MDU

2.3 not disclose or discuss the materials with anyone else except MDU employees or agencies authorised on behalf of the MDU

2.4 not screenshot, download, scan or otherwise capture any of the materials unless explicitly permitted by MDU as part of the testing process

2.5 not try to circumvent any of the security features of the MDU Lab or allow others to access the materials using your authorisation / login

2.6 not access any materials which you reasonably know or suspect you should not have had access to; and to notify the MDU of the access.

3. Materials supplied

The materials supplied are for research and testing purposes only. The materials may be inaccurate, false or incomplete. They are not an indication of future content, products or plans.

The material should not be relied upon or used for any other purpose than research and testing.

4. Session recordings and personal data

For some research and tests we may record the session for data analysis. This may include video, voice, photographs and screen capture. We may also use quotes, recordings and photographs in reports or other media. With your permission we may also use quotes, recordings or photographs in our marketing and promotional material. This may include on our website, social channels or other media.

5. Sharing personal data

Sometimes research and testing will be carried out by one of our partners. If this is the case we may share your data with them to enable them to carry out the research. We will only share the minimum necessary to do the research. We will also make sure that they have the systems and processes in place to keep it confidential and only use it in the ways that you would reasonably expect.

6. Rewards

Some research and tests may include a reward for participating. Details of the reward will be provided in the invitation. The MDU reserves the right to change the reward to something else of equivalent value.

7. Change of email address

If you change your email address you must contact marketing@themdu.com. This is in addition to updating your email in My membership or via our membership team.

8. Lab enrolment and participation

To enrol in the lab, members should complete the enrolment form. From time to time, lab members will be invited to participate in research or testing. Details of the research or test will be provided in the invite. Participation is not mandatory.

Members may leave the lab at any time by contacting marketing@themdu.com.

The MDU can remove members from the lab at any time for any reason. This may include, but not limited to:

  • ceasing membership with the MDU
  • prolonged inactivity in the lab
  • unsubscribing from marketing communications
  • not making us aware of a change of email address (see 7 above).

9. Intellectual property

All property, including all intellectual property in the materials provided to you or given access to remain our property at all times.

The copying, reproduction and distribution of the materials, without the MDU’s express permission is strictly prohibited.

This agreement does not include, expressly or by implication, any representations, warranties or other obligations to grant you any licence or rights other than as expressly stated in this agreement.

10. Privacy policy

We understand that data must be handled securely. Any personal data will be handled in accordance with our privacy policy.

11. Governing law

This agreement is to be governed by and construed in accordance with English law and the English courts will have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes or matters arising out of this agreement.

12. Agreement

Enrolment into the MDU Lab implies acceptance of these terms and conditions.
