Do I have a statutory duty of candour?

2 January 2015

The statutory duty of candour was introduced on 27 November 2014. It applies to organisations rather than individual doctors. However, you still have your own ethical duty to be honest and open with patients when something goes wrong, and all hospital doctors will be expected to help their employer comply with its legal obligations, both contractual and statutory.

This guidance was correct at publication on 02/01/2015. It is intended as general guidance for members only. If you are a member and need specific advice relating to your own circumstances, please contact one of our advisers.
